Brownwood Independent School district includes a total of nine campuses (four elementary, one intermediate, one middle/junior high, one high school, and two private schools) with a total enrollment of approximately 4,000 students. Secondary educational opportunities include Howard Payne University, a four-year private university offering a range of bachelor degrees; Texas State Technical College; and Ranger Junior College for nursing and cosmetology studies.
Brownwood also hosts a state-of-the-art medical center. Brownwood Regional Medical Center is a 178-bed modern acute care facility offering advanced technology and medical services by highly skilled health professionals. Specialized facilities are the Walker Cancer Center, Outpatient Center, a Magnetic Resonance Imaging Center, the Heart Center, a skilled nursing facility, a rehabilitation unit, and a medical telemetry unit.
